ARTISTS FOR A NEW TOMORROW

The program and laboratory called “artists for a new tomorrow” commissioned by Foxway Foundation for Arts and Culture positions itself as an interdisciplinary global project rethinking technology within the framework of a circular economy. It seeks to collaborate closely with international researchers and artists, often with a focus on critical thinking around global resources, social and economic injustice, tech decolonization, and contemporary indentured labor and slavery.

Created as a residency program, publication, online project, and with an exhibition outcome in different locations, this laboratory aims to fill a gap in the contemporary art scenario regarding the over-exploitation of mining resources in Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia, as well as its outcomes, such as excessive tech consumption in the Global West, which is closely tied to the current ecological and environmental crisis as mankind faces the Anthropocene. This project gathers theoretical and visual outcomes from artists, curators, scholars, and thinkers who critically engage with new economic perspectives through a series of interlinked places; a cultural site that expands our imagination and contributes to the emergence of a new perspective on the correlations between art, critical thinking, and technology. In addition to the content presented in the residency program — visual and conceptual outcomes, and a publication format — we also intend to create a strong and ongoing online program through talks, screenings, and podcasts, enhancing dialogue and presentation of works developed internationally. As an act of geographical acupuncture and engaging in situ with local communities, the Foxway Foundation also aims, as part of this program, to create in situ (Africa and Southeast Asia) educational programs that enhance circularity by identifying, collecting, and recycling equipment.
